Draped Bust Half Dollars For Sale
The second design for early half dollars was the Draped Bust Half Dollar, designed by Robert Soct based on sketches by Gilbert Stuart. For the first two years, the same reverse design from the previous series was used. These 1796-1797 half dollars with the "small eagle reverse" were minted in very small numbers and represent significant rarities.
After a gap in production, a new "heraldic eagle reverse" was adopted. These coins were struck in higher numbers and more readily available. Problem free examples and uncirculated coins are greatly prized by collectors.
